Children and Young Adults librarian Virginia Cox said that the Little Bang Discovery Club was a chance for young children to develop a sense of curiosity and experience all the wonderful things available at the library particularly in the field of science.
"Libraries these days are a hub of curiosity and to develop that, we are running these workshops for children to develop that sense of wonder at an early age because we know how beneficial it can be," Ms Cox said.
The sessions, split into four areas, collecting and classifying, measuring and recording, experimenting and a science fair are designed for age appropriate learning.
"The four sessions show children and their parents discoveries related to genuine scientific exploration can be fun and why being curious is a good thing," she said.
The workshops are part of a wider push by libraries and schools around the country for children to embrace the science and mathematics subjects when they get to school.
"The workshops are using everyday objects that children and parents would find around the house so they can go home and continue the fascination of learning about science in their own environment."
