And, says hobby artist Harold Le Jeune, he wants more people to pick up a paint brush to investigate their own creativity.
Mr Le Jeune is a founding member of The Hastings Art Trail and his passionate about watercolour painting.
He says constantly improvement can be achieved through regular attendance at classes and courses while having a mentor is also important.
The well known and versatile artist is hosting an open weekend and sale at his Capalla Court gallery this weekend.
Mr Le Jeune studied art at the Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney and moved to Port Macquarie in 1987. He found work immediately – his ‘day job’ – within the local motor vehicle sales industry.
But his art also kept him busy, completing a diploma art course with the then Hastings District School of Art.
He met artist and watercolour tutor Bob Smith while also attending numerous intense painting workshops with world renowned artist Robert Wade, and Greg Allen. His desire to improve continued by attending tutorials with highly acclaimed artists Joseph Zbukvic, Amanda Hyatt and Malcolm Beattie.
“I constantly stride to improve my technique and style with involvement in regular painting and drawing workshops,” Mr Le Jeune said.
My watercolour paintings are generally realistic in faithfully capturing the light, colours and mood of the chosen subject.

“My watercolour paintings are generally realistic in faithfully capturing the light, colours and mood of the chosen subject.
“This medium allows the transparency of colours and conveys more feeling to the subject than just an illustration.”
The use of high quality art materials and professional framing ensures long life and enjoying of his works, he says.
Mr Le Jeune says he is greatly inspired by the character and style of old Australian farm buildings, rural landscape and river and beach scenes and subjects from our travels in Italy, particularly Tuscany and Venice.
“I’m privileged to have many local and interstate clients, as well as those currently from Canada, Switzerland, Singapore and England,” he added.
He has held seven solo exhibitions.
The open weekend and clearance sale at Gallery Le Jeune and Art Studio is on Saturday January 20 and Sunday January 21, 9am until 4pm. The studio is 5 Capalla Court, Port Macquarie.
