Mal Myers took out the grand champion orchid and champion species titles with a slipper orchid.
“I’ve always loved orchids, even when I was going to school,” Mr Myers said.
Mr Myers devotes a lot of time to orchid growing.
“The more you put into it, the more you get back,” he said.
The orchid grower enjoys sharing his knowledge.
“I have no secrets,” Mr Myers said.
“If somebody wants to know how to grow them, I will tell them how I grow them.”
The orchid show at Laurieton United Services Club featured about 140 plants including orchids and foliage plants.
A constant flow of people supported the January 13-14 show.
Camden Haven Orchid Society vice-president Allan Wallace and president Lloyd Edwards each gave a potting demonstration.
The judges were Bruce Hall from Boambee, Lorne’s John Carter, Gary Suter from Valla and visiting judges John and Marie Bartlett from the Central Coast.
Orchid show marshall Allan Barnes said the event attracted a lot of people.
There are many types of orchids.
Mr Barnes said some orchids would grow outside and orchid houses were needed to grow others.
The Camden Haven Orchid Society meets on the third Tuesday of the month from 7.30pm at Laurieton United Services Club.
