Pirates were led in the bowling by Alexander Horder, who took five wickets in eight overs, but it was the experience of the Magpies that ensured the win – that and an impressive tonne to batsman Blake Larance.
Tim Harris was the next best with a half century.
They set a target of 269 for the Pirates to chase that was ultimately too big a hill to climb, with Josh Felton taking four wickets and Jesse Schmidt three. The Pirates only managed 149 in their chase.
“We needed that. It gives the boys some confidence after a couple of losses,” said captain Gordon Scott.
He said the young Pirates side should stick together to ensure a thriving first grade team in the coming years.
“They probably need a few more years to develop,” he said. “Some strike players will help them, but give them a few years and if the young guys stick with the club they will do quite well.”
