Sophia claimed the honour when she made her entrance at 4.43am on January 1.
First-time parents Sam Craig-Mullard and Elijah Alexander, from Wauchope, are thrilled.
Sam saw the New Year’s Eve fireworks from the Ferris wheel at Young’s Family Carnival.
Three hours later she was in labour.
Sam said it was so special to have a New Year’s Day baby.
“I will tell her [Sophia] about how much of a miracle she was and how strong she was,” Sam said.
The new mum said her daughter’s birthday made her ever more special.
Elijah said it was indescribable to be a dad.
“This whole thing is magical,” he said.
Sam said Rosemarie Mullard, who she affectionately called aunty mum, was amazing during the pregnancy, as was Elijah.
Aunty Irene Brown visited for Christmas and ended up being here for Sophia’s birth.
Grandparents are Patricia Craig, and Jennifer Norris Alexander, and Alice Mullard is the great-grandmother.
