At MacKillop College a total of 107 students made the State Honours list by achieving in the top ten per cent of subjects.
Brad Ellison received full marks in Extension 1 Mathematics and Band 6s in Advanced English and Drama and Isabella Candotti was among the top ranked Biology students in NSW also achieving Band 6s in Legal Studies, Ancient History and General Mathematics, saying he was extremely happy.
“Before the results came out I was very anxious but having the results now I am now glad that the effort I put in was worth it, and gaining early entry to the University of Newcastle means I know where I will be going,” said Isabella.
All Music, Drama, Extension History and Extension 2 Mathematics students finished in the top 20% of the state. In Advanced English, 80% of students performed above the state to score an extraordinary number of Band 5s and Band 6s.
And, 75% of all Extension 1 Mathematics and Extension 1 English students scored top bands.
At St Columba Anglican School the statistics show over 54% of students’ results placed in the top two performance bands.
Overall students received Band 6 results across twenty-one different subject areas; Ancient History, Biology, Chemistry, Dance, Design and Technology, Earth & Environmental Science, Engineering Studies, Advanced English, Entertainment Industry, Geography, Information Processes & Technology, Legal Studies, Mathematics General, Mathematics, Mathematics Extension 1, Music 1, PDHPE, Physics, Society and Culture, Construction and Hospitality.
Careers adviser at St Joseph’s Regional College, Karen Bale said that for all the students that received great HSC marks, there are still so many options for students to consider when leaving school.
“Over the next few days, weeks and months we are on hand to help students plot the course that they will take from here.
“Some many have just fallen short of the marks they needed but students have know that there are so many pathways and opportunities to get where they want to go, it is just a matter of them coming in and talking to us.
“Your ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank) does not define you and there are lots of examples of students not getting their first preference but going on to do great things and that is something to remember,” Ms Bale said.
How our Hastings schools ranked:
As well as the raw numbers, schools across the state are ranked in a number of areas including high scores, meaning the number of band six scores, entries, the number of merit list course completions, students sitting their HSC as well as success rate which is high scores expressed as a percentage.
The top 150 schools in the state are also ranked, and in the Hastings, both MacKillop College and St Columba Anglican School both ranked.
