The matter was discussed at council's December meeting.
Hill Street's Kath Gumbleton addressed the open forum, asking council for safer crossings on the busy link road.
"My home backs onto Lake Road and I would like to ask council if you can get more lighting and more signage on this street," she asked the councillors.
"It is particularly needed at night, to slow drivers down.
"Unfortunately, some drivers speed up at night.
"We (older residents) need more crossing options. It is very difficult for people in wheelchairs or walkers to cross this road and I fear that someone could get hurt."
Mrs Gumbleton said Port Macquarie continues to 'grow rapidly'.
Cr Rob Turner asked if reducing the speed limit to 40 kilometres per hour had helped residents when they were crossing the road.
Cr Mike Cusato also asked if council staff could investigate installing a pedestrian crossing.
Acting director Andrew Doig said RMS data and permission would be required prior to introducing any crossing.
