He spent time at Mrs York’s Garden and at the Lost Plot Community garden. He was the special guest at Lost Plot when they launched in 2014.
“The amount of food we’ve got growing here is a huge change from when Costa opened it,” said Lost Plot president, Ali Bigg.
“It was pretty stark and a hectic few weeks to get things open. Now, we have much more infrastructure like the greenhouse, a pizza oven, a bridge and potting shed.
“Really it’s about the community that has come in that has been the biggest difference.
“It was a coup getting Costa here for the opening. We had a scarecrow competition and around 800 people through the gates which gave us a great presence in the community.
“Here we are almost four years later and Costa has come back to visit. He is a very busy man so to be able to wing this and have him call in for the afternoon is very special. It’s a really nice feeling to see him back.”
Di Davison from Mrs York’s Garden said it was a special afternoon showing Costa the garden and sitting down for a chat.
“We did some planting and had a yummy afternoon tea at the best location in town,” she said.
“He is such an amazingly positive and inspiring person who made us all feel valued for what we have achieved at the garden.”
Speaking at the garden, Costa said gardens teach you how to bring people together to form something very special.
“Empathy and sharing and volunteering and feeling … talking and communicating, working together with the parents and teachers and all of these people … you put it together and you have a community,” he said.
