Parents of school aged children in the Hastings are being encouraged to take advantage of the $100 Active Kids rebate for sporting and fitness related costs launching at the end of January, 2018.

The program, announced in this year’s state budget and funded for four years, is designed to offset the cost of children participating in organised sporting activities, from surf life saving to netball, soccer and footy, the list is endless.

The rebate which begins on January 31, is for $100 per child for the calendar year and can go towards covering the costs associated with organised sports lasting longer than eight weeks.

The program defines eligible activities as sporting pursuits, swimming lessons, structured fitness program, outdoor education programs, approved active recreation (dance etc) and equipment ordinarily provided by the provider on registration for competition, and according to Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams the money will help families.

“All school aged children are eligible and this rebate addresses one of the most important issues across our local community – easing the cost of living for families.

“We know how household costs can add up and we wanted to ease the pressure on families where we can, so we are encouraging parents to take advantage of this rebate and enroll their children in their preferred sport during the next school year,” Mrs Williams said. 

The rebate is not means tested so every family can access the rebate, and Mrs Williams says parents can start the process now.

“We are saying to parents before the school year starts again sign up for a My Service NSW account so that come January 31 they can do the next step, it is that simple.

“That said some parents, if they pay their car registration on line may already have an account and that is great. 

“We are just trying to prepare parents so they can take advantage of the rebate when it comes in,” she said.
