RRISK is a health promotion program that has been running in the Mid North Coast area for more than 18 years, and includes seminar days and in school workshops for Year 11 students, and presentations for parents and interested community members.
Mid North Coast Local Health District Community Development Officer Natalie Wilson said the seminar days and in-school workshops focus on the key messages of planning ahead, knowing the facts, making informed decisions and looking after your friends.
“Students learn about current trends and they also practice skills to help them care for others and stay safe,” Natalie said.
This year, the keynote speaker for the seminars is Director of Drug and Alcohol Research and Training Australia (DARTA) Paul Dillon.
Paul will also present to parents and professionals, helping them sort out fact from fiction on a range of current youth alcohol and drug trends.
The RRISK seminar will be held in Port Macquarie (Monday, November 20 and November 21) at the Port Panthers Club, and in Kempsey on Wednesday 22 November at the Melville High School Hall.
The first parent presentation was held at the Port Panthers Club on Monday from 6pm to 7.30pm and the second will be held at the Kempsey Shire Council Chambers on November 22 from 1.30-3pm.
If you are interested in attending the parent and community presentations, please RSVP by contacting the Mid North Coast Local Health District Drug and Alcohol Service on 6586 6030.
