Some key concept design modifications proposed include separate arrivals and departure entry points to improve passenger experience and flow through the terminal and improve the pick-up and drop-off experience for passengers.
The modifications also provide the ability to expand the terminal in the future as required.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council group manager commercial business units Ashley Grummitt said requirements for the function of the Port Macquarie Airport had changed since the original development application was approved, in particular the need for increased security measures and the ability to cater for an increase in flight and passenger numbers.
The original development application approval dates back to 2012.
“The recent DA modifications relate only to the terminal building and are required to align with current aviation standards and to ensure the future proofing of our regional airport so that it continues to cater for the demands of our growing region,” Mr Grummitt said.
The modification proposal is in progress with a determination pending.
The council has released a detailed concept for the airport terminal building upgrade.
The planned work will double the terminal’s floor space.
