In the end, he finished with two as Macquarie Hotel kept its perfect Mid North Coast Premier Cricket League record in tact with an impressive six-wicket victory over Port Pirates.
Captain Josh Hyde admitted it was the best Boxhall had bowled in 12 months.
“He beat the bat numerous times and had balls jagging back over the top of the stumps,” he said.
Pirates were bowled out for 127 in the 39th over before Macquarie got the job done in the 23rd over for the loss of four wickets.
“It was probably a bit bullish how we went about the run chase,” Hyde said.
Liam Coelho (45) was looking good before he threw his wicket away when he ran himself out.
“He had a formal to go to, but that’s how we wanted to attack it,” the captain said.
“We wanted to play some attacking cricket and not fall in to the trap of only needing two or three runs an over.
“Our middle order was pretty safe in the end.”
Hyde was impressed with the Pirates young brigade, led by Jared Humphreys (33), along with brother Ambrose’s sportsmanship and off-spinner Connor Cook.
“Their young fellas showed a lot of patience, but in Premier League you’re not really hurting teams if you’re only scoring at one or two runs an over,” he said.
“Jarryd is the most impressive young bat I’ve seen and with his brother and Connor, that club is in good hands and I hope they stay there.
“I was most impressed with the young ‘keeper (Ambrose) and how he wasn’t going to be given out after a faint edge, but chose to walk.”
