Emily and Bailey have been working with the Port Macquarie office of Community Housing one day a week and in the school holidays, with Emily undertaking a Business Services certificate and Bailey working towards a certificate in construction.
The traineeship has been a two year long program where the pair have been mentored by people in the industry and Mid Coast Connect’s Training Coordinator Allan Campbell said the school-based traineeships are a great way for students to end school on the right foot.
“It is a way for students to get a head start in a career, completing nationally recognised training and earning a wage, while doing study that goes towards the HSC,” Mr Campbell said.
Zehrina Hajdic, Housing Manager for NSW said the program is a way of giving back to the community and helping the next generation.
“At Community Housing we see this program as a way of giving back to the community and have thoroughly enjoyed watching Emily and Bailey develop their skills and knowledge in the workplace.
“They have been valuable members of our workforce and we look forward to working with Mid Coast Connect with our next intake of trainees,” Ms Hajdic said.
