Store Manager for Port Macquarie, Jade Holstein, said that Radio Rentals are happy to take part in this campaign as it is a national problem that needs to be fixed.
“The Radio Rentals Wear-a-Pair campaign started in 2016 as part of the company’s support of White Ribbon Day.
“Domestic violence is often hidden and therefore it is very hard to understand the real impact in our community. Statistics from White Ribbon indicate that domestic violence is very wide spread nationally and far reaching. Every community including Port Macquarie touched in some way,” Ms Holstein said.
Ms Holstein said that it is important for the team at Radio Rentals in Port Macquarie to be advocates of White Ribbon because so many people within the local community, including our customers, are touched by domestic violence.
“Wear-a-Pair is really about active participation, it’s about getting our staff actively involved in an activity together, and it unites us as a team.
“In short, the Wear-a-Pair campaign is about empathy and taking a stance against domestic violence in our community,” she said.
Ms Holstein said that customers have responded really well to the heels.
“We have had many customers tell us that they are happy to see Radio Rentals supporting White Ribbon locally as there are many people in Port Macquarie who have been affected by domestic violence.
“There are many organisations and support services in the local area that help women facing domestic violence, but it makes us feel good as a team to know that we are part of the solution. We want to send the message that you are not alone.”
Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams, who popped in for a visit, said Radio Rentals are standing up for the cause in a great way.
“The initiative Wear-a-Pair is about getting men in heels and about fundraising and raising awareness for domestic violence, because unfortunately it doesn’t matter where you live across Australia, from regional communities to metropolitan communities, domestic violence is an absolute scourge on our communities, and it is unacceptable,” Mrs Williams said.
This White Ribbon Day Mrs Williams is calling on all members of the Port Macquarie community to stand up and take active steps to stop violence continuing.
“White Ribbon day is a reminder for us all to be aware of the impacts of domestic violence, not only on the woman or man involved but also often there are children involved and violence has just a negative ripple effect right across our communities.
“So this White Ribbon Day I think we all need to make sure it is a part of our conversation, make sure it is out in the open, make sure we talk about and make sure we are then able to support those who are impacted by domestic violence,” she said.
