Festival of Small Halls is a series of tours that takes the best folk and contemporary acoustic artists performing at two of Australia's largest festivals, and sends them on the road to tiny halls in communities all over Australia.
It is produced by Woodfordia Inc and is an opportunity for music-lovers from welcoming communities like Wauchope to invite artists from home and abroad into their towns.
Local musician Rose Wilson will appear with Sally Jane and Belinda Kennedy as the support act. The trio will present a short set of original songs, exploring a bundle of different musical styles, themes and instruments.
Known for their warm and engaging presence and delicious harmonies, the group will be the local element in the concert which features a local, national and international act.
“Live music is important for the soul I think. It is a totally different experience to listening to recorded music,” said Rose Wilson.
“Your whole body is involved, you pay attention, the atmosphere is a big factor and you get see the personality of the performers which I think adds an important dimension to the music.
“So having Wauchope Arts in the area is amazing, because they get unbelievable talent. Then, on top of that amazing quality, Krissa Wilkinson and the committee provide this wonderful opportunity for our many talented local acts to provide the support set.
“That really helps to establish a local music culture and people get to know that there are great local performers as well. The atmosphere at Wauchope Arts is really unique,” she said.
The Small Halls concert features American folk raconteur Vance Gilbert and Australian singer-songwriter Liz Stringer. Liz is one of Australia’s most respected and versatile songwriters and musicians, renowned for the quality of her musicianship, creative autonomy and intensely moving live shows.
A passionate advocate of independent music and regional touring, Liz has shared her skill as a musical storyteller with the Wauchope Arts crowd a few times now.
Festival of Small Halls arrives at the Wauchope Community Arts Hall for one night only on Sunday, November 26 2017.
Tickets are available at the door from 5.30pm, $25; $20 for members or online at https://smallhalls.iwannaticket.com.au/event/festival-of-small-halls-summer-tour-2017-mullum-to-woodford-MTM3OTY?
