Janette Turnbull, her son, Alex and his girlfriend, Bec Bannerman were inside the house at Redbank on Monday evening, November 6 at 6pm when the storm broke.
“We were watching what was happening at the back of the house and we realised it was getting really bad and coming towards us, so went into the bathroom, which I believe is the safest place. Then the storm hit the house and took the roof off. It was terrifying,” said Janette.
“It sounded like a huge crack of lightning,” said Alex.
“We couldn’t believe the damage. The roof came right off and hit my car,” said Bec.
Part of the roof landed in the next door neighbour’s garden. The family are very thankful they survived.
Meanwhile several homes at Long Flat were also battered by the wild weather.
The clean up continues throughout Tuesday with the State Emergency Service (SES) responding to hundreds of calls for assistance across the local government area.
