President Tom Sheppard said the exhibition – Expressions In Light – is a diversion from the normally competitive world of photography.
“The fantastic thing about this exhibition is that it is a collection of works from our members that has been achieved by working collaboratively,” he said.
“Many of our members are choosing to extend their practice beyond the conventional and competitive sphere of the camera club movement to make photography the medium through which they express their own personalities and unconstrained creative instincts.
“For many of our artists, photography is a solitary and contemplative activity, yet each draws inspiration, knowledge, critique and encouragement from peers within the club to enrich their own personal journey in the art of photography.”
Mr Sheppard said club members were prepared to act as mentors for newcomers to the art.
Expressions In Light is the club’s first major exhibition in seven years although it regularly holds portfolio events over a shorter timeframe.
The exhibition brings together an eclectic mix of photographic art that goes beyond the rich traditions of landscape, portraiture, nature and still life and ranges through the quirky and abstract interpretations of everyday life and subjects, Mr Sheppard said.
“The exhibition also moves into the experimental and conceptual visual expression,” he added.
Expressions In Light is on at Masterpiece Framing and Gallery on Hastings River Drive from 9am until 5pm Monday to Friday and on Saturdays from 9am until noon. It will remain on display until December 28.
The photographic club meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at Panthers Port Macquarie at 7pm.
