“When Jordan was first diagnosed, we had to travel a few hours away from home for her to get treatment, and it really put a strain on the whole family,” Mrs Miller said.
“Living away from home, often our younger daughter was in the care of family and with both girls so young it was hard for them to understand what was going on.
“It was at this point we heard about Camp Quality, and it really was the best thing we could have done,” she said.
Mrs Miller said Camp Quality gave them the opportunity to connect back as a family, giving everyone something good to focus on.
“Camp Quality enabled us to reconnect as a family, and introduced us to families going through the same thing, giving us a support system to rely on when things weren’t so good.
“It also gave the girls an opportunity to have something else to think about, something good even though it was a year we would all rather forget,” she said.
“We really appreciated the fact Camp Quality were able to look after everyone in the family, not just Jordan.
“Charlie was able to be included in the fun activities and go on camps, which meant she was able to make sense of what was going on as well.”
Mrs Miller said she can now remember the good times as well as the bad.
“Obviously we would take it all back if it meant Jordan didn’t get cancer, but reflecting on that horrible year, there are happy memories as well as all the hospital visits and needles,” she said.
Camp Quality are in Port Macquaire on October 21-22 to kick off their annual ‘esCarpade’ car trek, with cars driving from Port to Toowoomba and esCarpade Event Manager, Susan Fleming said she is glad Camp Quality can make a difference in people’s lives.
