It was the first time Moore had been to the revamped Suncorp Stadium to watch the Wallabies and it is only fitting that on Saturday, he will play his last Test on home soil at a ground that for him is filled with nostalgia.

"I was there in the stands watching the World Cup in 2003, that was pretty memorable," Moore said on Thursday. "I was a young uni student back then and we used to get the cheap tickets and sit way up the back there. That was pretty soon after Suncorp was built.

"I remember watching England and Wales. That was a great game. Scotland and Australia played there as well [in a quarter-final]. We got a bunch of the $5 tickets which was your Romanias, Fiji, France [teams].

"I even came down with my old man from Rockhampton in '96 to watch the Bledisloe Cup [at Lang Park] - the game where Michael Brial got in that fight and New Zealand won in a pretty close game.

"It's always been a great place to play a Test match and the British Lions games were an unbelievable atmosphere. Anytime we've played New Zealand, the games have been pretty well contested over the years too."

When Moore gets the call on Saturday night to come off the bench against the All Blacks, for the very last time on home soil, it will be a special occasion for a player that will go down as one of Australia's finest hookers.

In front of friends and family, and more than likely some of those university mates he dared to dream with some 14 years ago, Moore will don the gold jersey for the 125th time and in doing so become the ninth most capped player in Test history.

"You certainly find a few more friends in these kind of weeks, everyone comes out of the woodwork," Moore said. "It is great to play at home and I've got a few mates that are going to rock up to the game and my family as well."

Moore hates the plaudits that come with being such a well-respected veteran of Australian rugby. At all costs, he will divert attention from his personal glory to focus on the team.

"I try to put everything else to one side, that [it is my final game in Australia] is not really important," Moore said. "What's important is the performance of the team in a game like this. I want to get the job done in front of our home fans."

Coach Michael Cheika has long been a supporter of Moore, ensuring he remained captain at the 2015 Rugby World Cup and for 15 more Tests in 2016 and 2017.

"He's a quiet leader, he's a quiet character but I've noticed his genuine desire for Australian rugby to be something that the people of the country enjoy and are apart of," Cheika said. "He's a very passionate, very patriotic Australian. He's been a big part of what we've been able to do.

"Moore deserves his opportunity to play in this game and I'm sure he's going to make it count."

This weekend, the Wallabies will need every bit of Moore's 29 games of experience against the All Blacks to get them over the line and break a seven-game losing streak against their trans-Tasman rivals.

Moore's last start came against the All Blacks in Dunedin, a match remembered for Beauden Barrett's 78th minute try that sunk Australian hearts just when they thought they were on the cusp of history across the ditch.

Minutes earlier, when Kurtley Beale crossed to put Australia in the lead, a shot of Moore's fist-pump on the bench epitomised how much it would have meant to beat the All Blacks in New Zealand, something he could not manage from 13 attempts.

Wallabies halfback Will Genia said: "It's a great privilege to say I played with someone who has played so many Tests for Australia and will go down as a great of Australian rugby and world rugby."

In 2003, Moore watched Australia beat Romania 90-8. He will no doubt be hoping it serves as an omen for Saturday evening, perhaps by not as big a margin.
