Less than two weeks after a coward threw over 200 pieces of paper with the words ‘Vote No Lezo’ scrawled over them on their lawn, the couple woke on October 16 to graffiti on their fence saying ‘Vote No’.
Ms Turnham said that while originally the couple believed the first incident was unrelated to the same-sex marriage debate, she said it is hard to not see them as connected after another incident.
“It just goes to show the moronic mentality of some people,” Ms Turnham said.
“Who are these people with all this spare time on their hands?” she questioned.
Completed under the cover of darkness, Ms Turnham said that the graffiti was just another episode the couple had endured since the same-sex marriage debate and postal survey had been in the news.
“All I know is that the graffiti was not there at 7pm last night, but when we came outside at 7am this morning it was there.
“We have also had screws and nails thrown on the driveway now this, we didn’t think they connected but now it is hard not to think that,” she said.
The community-minded couple have been a part of the Port Macquarie community for a long time, and say they are just like every other couple out there.
“We have been partners for over 30 years, so this is not a passing fad, we are just like every other couple out there, we eat, we work and pay taxes and help out in the community.
“The same sex marriage debate is a waste of money and is continuing to stir up community anger, as we are seeing,” she said.
