Supporters walked from the skate park area to the Town Green and back during the Endeavour Mental Health Recovery Clubhouse Wellness Walk.
The October 11 walk raised awareness about mental health.
Partners in Recovery peer worker for New Horizons, Michael Daley, said people’s presence at the walk reduced stigma.
It [stigma] is still very much present, even within families there is stigma, and there is also self-stigma,” he said.
Mr Daley said the Wellness Walk was an extension of what Endeavour Mental Health Recovery Clubhouse represented and that was a safe space.
He said the event also raised awareness for Endeavour Mental Health Recovery Clubhouse and its great work.
Eclipse co-facilitator and peer support Lea Harvey agreed.
“Endeavour is a great support to people with a mental illness,” she said.
Adults recovering from mental illness gain support at the clubhouse as they work to rebuild their self confidence, social and vocational skills.
Supporters enjoyed a barbecue at the Hamilton Green clubhouse after the walk.
Endeavour Mental Health Recovery Clubhouse director Rob Moorehead said the walk was a way of reducing the stigma that tended to follow mental illness.
Mr Moorehead said the walk was a little way to show that together there was nothing that could not be achieved.
