Her success at school and in the workplace thus far proves her attitude is spot on, claiming the 2017 student of the year honour at St Josephs Regional College.
The year 12 student placed first in seven subjects in her senior year - physics, chemistry, mathematics, extension 1 mathematics, advance English, one unit of religion and engineering studies - and has held a job with a major engineering firm since year nine.
“I’ve never really considered doing less than 100 percent to something” she said.
“I don’t know what it is that drives me, I just sit down and do it. There’s no other option other than to do my best.
“If you’re going to do something, do it right. I dedicate a lot of free time to study. I do have a good balance though. I do tae kwon do and find free time for myself.”
It is no surprise she has already applied to university, hoping to secure a spot at the University of NSW to undertake a mechanical engineering degree with a master in biomedical engineering.
“I’d be looking at the mechanical side of medicine such as prosthetic limbs, pacemakers … pretty much anything that aids the way the body works,” she said.
“One of my teachers in year nine was pushing for me to do engineering so that is where it all began.
“I did graphics technology that year, and from that I got a job at Bale Defence Industries after topping the class.
“It was industry experience for me, and I’m still working there now. I’m in the drafting office, working on a lot of technical drawings.”
She admits stress can hamper her in the lead up to exams.
“But that happens to everyone,” she laughed.
“My teachers are absolutely amazing. They’re really supportive. I am able to e-mail them anytime to have questioned answered and they also reply, so they’re working outside of school hours too.”
If successful in her application for the five year course at UNSW, she will have the full support of her family as she has always had.
“Both my parents are really supportive and go with whatever I’m interested in which is really good for me,” she said.
