The event will kick off at 7pm at The Lounge Room, Port Macquarie.
This is an opportunity to get together with a bunch of like-minded people and belt out a rock classic. And better still, there is no audition, no ongoing commitment and it is in a pub!
Pub choirs or pop-up choirs have taken off around the world, with events such as those organised by Choir! Choir! Choir! in Toronto attracting hundreds of participants and tens of thousands of YouTube followers.
The phenomenon is still relatively new in Australia, but popular already in Sydney, Brisbane and Newcastle.
Bar Cappella is Port Macquarie’s first pub choir and is the brainchild of Ruth Allen and Marie van Gend. Both women have been involved in the music scene in Port Macquarie for many years - Ruth with her ukulele ensemble, The Port Macquarie Ukestra and band, U4RiA, Marie with her work with the Wauchope Public School and St Columba choirs, and more recently, the adult choir, Kala Rava.
Both Ruth and Marie run the Absolutely Everybody choir, on behalf of School of Hard Knocks Port Macquarie-Hastings.
You decide if you are a high, middle or low singer. The leaders will break the song chosen for the night into easy harmonies, teach them to each section and stitch them back together to create something that’s great fun to sing (and hopefully doesn’t sound too bad either). You just pick the part that suits you best, and go for it.
Cost is $10 and the event is for over 18s.
