St Columba Anglican School takes out 2017 Mid Coast Futsal Primary School Tournament

IN a one-sided final, St Columba Anglican School took out the Mid Coast Futsal Primary School Competition on Thursday.

Schools from Camden Haven, Wauchope and Port Macquarie competed with both of the SCAS teams progressing to the final match of the day.

SCAS Grey proved far too good for SCAS Blue in a 6-1 win to complete an undefeated competition.

Mid Coast Futsal development officer Alison Fazzolari said there had been a significant shift in abilities of players on the court.

“They’re up a notch on last year, that’s for sure and that’s because more kids are being exposed to futsal so they’re getting better at it,” she said.

Part of the stipulation for schools to field teams was that they all had to have at least two girls.

“There had to be two per team and one on the court at all times so it involves them fully,” Fazzolari said.

As a result, the Fazzolari said the gap had been closed between the boys and girls’ abilities.

“You can see that; there are a few who are better than the boys,” she said.

“We send our coach out to different schools so it’s good for them to all come together and match it with each other in an environment that’s really competitive.”

Fazzolari said the annual competition would return again next year.

“We’ll come back again in 12 months time,” she said.

“We’re coming into our summer comp now and then a lot of our players will play again and then we will coach again at the schools.”
