STOP Adani campaigners will host a summit in Port Macquarie on Saturday, September 16.

The summit will be held at the Glasshouse from 11am to 4.30pm.

Climate Change Australia Hastings group organiser Kerri-Ann Jones said they ramping up their campaign to prevent coal mining billionaire Adani from receiving $1 billion in taxpayer funds to help kick off his coal mine in Queensland.

“Over 70 people, representing four local groups and organisations from New England and the Mid North Coast of NSW including, Coffs Coast Climate Action Group and Climate Change Australia Hastings Branch, will meet on Saturday as part of a series of nationwide summitsn” Ms Jones aid.

“Port Macquarie’s event follows successful summits in Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Yeppoon, and sold out summits in Sydney and Brisbane.

“In a recent community survey, which asked a total of 333 residents from Luke Hartsuyker’s electorate what they thought of the $1 billion loan, a staggering 94 per cent strongly opposed it.

“The community know that spending taxpayers’ money on a dangerous, climate-wrecking, reef-destroying project that 24 banks have distanced themselves from is a ridiculous idea.

“This Summit will draw together people from all over the region to plan the next steps of the campaign.

“We have four MPs in our sights, including the Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce who is also Minister for Resources and Northern Australia, and MPs Luke Hartsuyker, David Gillespie, and Paul Hogan.

“It is high time they started listening to the community: Australians say no to this dirty mega-mine and yes to climate action, renewable energy, and protecting our Great Barrier Reef.”
