The award recognises the significant contribution of the arts in enhancing the health and wellness experience of patients and aged care consumers in Catholic hospitals and aged care facilities across Australia.
It aims to acknowledge projects and programs which enhance the experience of patients and/or aged care consumers through the use of the Arts.
For entry into the award, participants were required to report on an innovative arts program they engage with that meets specific criteria in a research poster that clearly outlines project aims, methods and outcomes.
Catholic Care of the Aged reported on TimeSlips, a program that is currently held at their Emmaus and St Agnes residential facilities, run weekly by creative ageing practitioner Lisa Hort and lifestyle facilitator Ronne Webb.
TimeSlips is a creative storytelling method that opens storytelling to everyone by replacing the pressure to remember with the encouragement to imagine.
TimeSlips uses an image or object to stimulate the imagination of participants. It encourages verbal communication and group engagement resulting in a collaborative creative story based on the image or object.
“Since it commenced in 2015, TimeSlips has positively impacted both residents living with dementia, their families and the staff who care for them,” CCA director of care, Joy Walsh said.
All submitted posters are on display at the CHA national conference for viewing by all Conference delegates.
As a short-listed entrant, CCA will present at the national conference in the Arts and Health plenary session on Wednesday, 30 August 2017 before a judging panel of three who will select the ultimate winner of the Award.
