Celestial Garden is a surrealist piece in watercolour and Lili says the piece was inspired by life
The Hastings Secondary College Port Macquarie campus year 9 student was one of 500 art pieces entered in the art prize.
“That was eventually whittled down to just 64 pieces,” Lili said.
“I’ve only done two paintings, and Celestial Garden was my first ever.
“I entered because it was a school project and, after my family helped come up with the theme of mermaids in space, I chose to use watercolours as my medium of choice.
“Mum is an artist and we go to the Glasshouse exhibitions and I was also helped by my art teacher Karen Noble.”
With over 40 schools participating in the art prize, there were five students from the Port Macquarie campus who entered the competition which is now in its 14th year.
Along with Lili, artists Tayla Dures, Dale Wyber-Hughes, Abi Cornish and Bonnie Rudd all exhibited their work in this high-quality exhibition.
A panel of artists selected 64 works to hang in the gallery based on excellence in technique and originality and creativity.
Lili and her mother attended the gallery opening in Armidale.
Hastings Secondary College Teacher, Cassandra Holland said the art prize has been a wonderful opportunity to showcase our creative arts students and their success. It highlights the talent of our young artists.
Let’s Hang It is on exhibition in Armidale until the end of August.
