As a teenager struggling with my own realisation that I was gay, I worried if family, friends and the wider community would accept this about me.
Beyond Blue has stated that anxiety and depression are far more common in gay teenagers compared with their straight counterparts.
I worry for those vulnerable teenagers exposed to the hate in the "No" campaign .
As a paediatrician in regional NSW I will see some of these teenagers in my practice.
I will try to reassure them that I hope the majority of Australians do not just tolerate gay members of our society but accept and love us - and see us as equal.
