Lone division one entry Jim and Nancy Ringland's veteran long keeler Spray took out the handicap result from Peter Young and Peter Brown's Splash and Gordon Southwell's High Flyer.
Splash stole the Bird Rock start from Enticer, Zig Zag, J Force, High Flyer and Spray, but it was Zig Zag that led the fleet over a flat sea into the light NE breeze, up to and around the buoy set off North Beach.
Enticer and J Force were snapping at her heels while High Flyer, Splash and Spray trailed.
As the NE breeze picked up, it was a close hauled second leg out to the Sea Buoy with Zig Zag still showing the way from Enticer, J Force, Splash and High Flyer.
Once around the mark the fleet would reach back to the beach mark.
It was then back out to the Sea Buoy and into the third leg of the triangular course.
Zig Zag maintained her lead while J Force set her spinnaker to overtake Enticer and move into second place as they sped downwind toward Bird Rock.
Then they set off round the second and final lap. Splash followed, ahead of High Flyer, while Spray, sailing the single triangle course trailed well back.
With the leading yachts fast approaching the Bird Rock finish the NE breeze picked up dramatically to propel the trailing yachts swiftly down the final leg.
Zig Zag just held off the fast finishing Enticer to take line honours. J Force was not far astern , followed by Splash and High Flyer. Eventual handicap victor Spray was last over the line.
