For the ninth successive year, funds from the society’s successful Swap Meet – this year it was $6280 – were handed over at a special morning tea on Thursday.
Society vice president and Swap Meet coordinator Chris Whalley said the total had climbed to $54,000.
“All money raised via the Swap Meet and the associated wheelbarrow raffle are donated to the cancer unit,” Mr Whalley said.
“Our donation is used to help with costs associated with residents who are undergoing cancer treatment.
“I think our efforts go to the very heart of the community.
“Fortunately we have good friends in the SES who not only help us out on the day of the Swap Meet but also donate back to us their fee.
I think our efforts go to the very heart of the community.

“That’s a fantastic effort on their behalf.”
The June Swap Meet is very well supported by the community, Mr Whalley said.
MNCCI nursing unit manager Jenny Baroutis praised the generosity of the society members.
“We are able to provide support through equipment and hardship assistance because of generous community organisations such as the Hastings Auto Restorers Society,” she said.
“For a small group of community-minded people to surpass the $50,000 milestone in support of local cancer patients is a remarkable feat and one we wanted to celebrate.
“And our morning tea was generously provided by the wonderful Hastings Palliative Care volunteers.”
Ms Baroutis said she was consistently amazed by the generosity, compassion and kindness of so many people in the Hastings community.
