If you dig a little deeper, about a third of his matches have required him to head back to Port Macquarie from the Gold Coast to play for his beloved Vikings.
“About 30 games I’ve played have been when I’ve come back from the Gold Coast or other places to play,” he said.
“I lived up there for about 10 years or so, playing league because I have always been registered to play with the Vikings so whenever it worked out I was able to play.”
McCormack will run out for his 100th game this Saturday when the Vikings host Grafton at Oxley Oval, but he won’t have to travel the six hours for the game.
In saying that, if he had to, he would – he’s already proven that.
“You just love the club you play for I guess and it worked out well for a game,” he said.
This time last year, brother Adam brought up his century of games for the club.
Hamish admitted there was sibling rivalry, but he remained hopeful he had a few more years left in him.
“Everything we do is a competition, but anytime we both play for the Vikings it’s more of a proud thing,” he said.
“There’s no real competition with how many games, but in saying that hopefully I might pick up a few more games later on and go further ahead.”
The Vikings captain acknowledged the Redmen would provide another tough task with the finals just two weeks away.
“Up at Grafton last time we only came away with a one-point win up there with them having the ball for the last 10 minutes,” he said.
“We don’t want it to end up something like that again this weekend. We’d like to win comfortably.”
First grade kicks off at 3pm.
