STUDENTS are inspired year after year at the Luminosity Youth Summit, so much so that many can not help but become more involved.
Students like Ally Grant and Jo Cutler, who are now in year 12 in Port Macquarie, visited Luminosity in the past and are now on board with the local Youth Advisory Council (YAC).
“I first came to Luminosity last year, and it was awesome. We are both in the YAC now and Luminosity is the reason I joined that,” Ally said.
“I love the idea of getting involved in the community, and getting involved with events and things like Luminosity.”
Ally said that being inspired, feeling welcomed and knowing she could help out other people was a great feeling.
“The whole idea of being more than you think, and knowing you can achieve more than you think if you set your mind to it really resonated with me,” she said.
“Now, we’re helping out with organisations and events, and we love it.”
Jo agreed, and said attending Luminosity is something she recommends to every young person.
“I joined YAC because I wanted to help out in Port Macquarie, but also because I’m very passionate about youth mental health,” she said.
“I wanted to get involved with that, and get YAC to join up with more groups like Headspace.”
She believes Luminosity is vital to Port Macquarie and hopes to see it grow each year.
“Luminosity is super important to our town. It inspires kids. It inspired me,” she said.
“I came and really enjoyed it. It brings lots of people and now, as we’re getting older, we have younger students asking us questions and seeking advice.
“We get a lot of questions about being in year 12, doing our HSC, what options are. It’s a good feeling to be looked up to.”
