Spokesperson Allan Masters said the group boasts around 30 members with a core group of between 15 and 20 who attend meetings.
“Our group members are involved in a broad range of remote controlled scale models from planes and trains through to boats,” he said.
“We hosted a very successful expo where a number of people came up to us and made enquiries about what we do and when we meet.
“The scale models are from the very fine plastic model kits right up to working models that are five or six foot in size.”
Mr Masters described the scale modellers as ‘a loose group of blokes who enjoy swapping information’.
He said the meetings are about sharing techniques and knowledge and also include a workshop on an aspect of assembling models.
These meetings, and that sharing of information, are at the very core of our group.

“These meetings, and that sharing of information, are at the very core of our group.
“Our members range in age from their 20s right through to their 80s. One of our older members enjoys crafting his models from raw materials … it is almost a dying art form.”
Despite the group ‘flying under the radar’ Mr Masters said scale modelling had broad appeal within the community.
Mr Masters said the group is continuing to press ahead to secure permanent access to an area featuring enclosed waterways.
He said an ideal location was the water front below Panthers or something similar to that.
The group gets together at Lake Cathie to operate their boats, he said.
Port Macquarie Scale Modellers meet at Panthers Port Macquarie the second Tuesday of each month from 7pm. For more information contact Dave Connolly 0403 865 331.
