Their year seven to nine dance honours group won their section, and are now eligible to be invited to the Dance of Champions, which is a nationally televised event held in September.
The senior honours group qualified to compete at the Dance Gala held at the Sydney Opera House. This event is the premier dance event held by the Sydney Dance Eisteddfod, and attracts both national and international dancers.
St Columba’s ensemble will compete in the Ballet Scholarship and Dance Ensembles Group Finals.
These are both major achievements for the students, and will once again place the school on the national stage. Congratulations to all dancers who competed in the Eisteddfod, led by dance teachers, Brianna Thomas and Shelly Kelly.
Fast and fit pupils race in CIS championships
Thirteen SCAS students attended the Combined Independent Schools (CIS) Cross Country Championships held at Eastern Creek Raceway in Sydney recently, where their endurance levels were further tested by a wet track. The NSW Combined Independent Schools Sports Council, known as CIS, aims to provide a pathway to state and national level competition in a wide variety of sports for students and staff in the independent sector.
The following students have progressed to this CIS level of representation: Grace Curran, Wilson Roberts, Ted Strong, Alice Hillsdon, Isla Smith, Frederick King and Selby Buckland (primary school) and Anneliese Cains, Jack Mills, Sam Soper, Laura Reynolds, Hannah Jones and Max Clark (secondary school).
Congratulations to Anneliese Cains (fourth) and Jack Mills (tenth) who both ran exceptionally well and were subsequently selected in the CIS team to participate at the NSW All-Schools Championships to be held over the holiday break.
