PORT Saints FC have shot into second place on the Football Mid North Coast Premier League first grade ladder after a tough away win over Wallis Lake on Saturday afternoon.
Missing three players, FC kept their first clean sheet of the season. They also gave 15 year old Andrew Walton a taste of senior football.
Their coach, John Goodman, did not hold back when he was asked about the oppositions antics.
“Great Lakes are a bunch of thugs, that’s all there is to it,” he said.
“They start losing and they start chopping down players left, right and centre. Our boys just stuck to the game, but I had to withdraw one of my players because they split his lip open.
“At the end of the game we didn’t stay around, we just left. I use to play hard, I have no problem with playing hard but I know the difference between playing hard and playing dirty.”
He was very proud of his teams composure in tough circumstances.
“We were the better team and as far as I’m concerned it didn’t feel like a victory in the end. The boys felt pretty battered,” he said. “Our skills got the better of them and it makes the win that much better. A draw would have been a good result for us, so a win is fantastic.”
