Port Macquarie-Hastings Council says residents and bridge users will see some noticeable changes occurring in the next few days.

A final layer of asphalt has been applied to the bridge which completes the scheduled surfacing, said a council spokesperson.

“This provides a safe and comfortable ride for motorists,” the spokesperson said.

“Weather permitting, line-marking will take place within the next week.

“The 18 tonne load limit has been lifted, with signs being removed. This will allow for all vehicles (excluding B-doubles) to cross Stingray Creek, providing easier access for commercial operators, and local business and industry on both sides of the bridge.”

Meanwhile demolition of the old bridge continues and the new shared pathway on the eastern side of the bridge will remain closed for safety reasons.

The demolition is expected to be complete by the end of August.

“During the final stages of construction, the community are being reminded to continue to exercise caution and to follow any traffic controls that are in place,” the spokesperson said.

Construction of the new Stingray Creek Bridge commenced in June 2015, and council thanks the community for their patience during the delivery of this significant community asset.
