When the National Disability Insurance Scheme was proposed, the Coalition in opposition supported the former Government on what was the right step forward for Australian people living with a disability.
But throughout the Labor government’s remaining time in office, they failed to adequately fund the NDIS leaving thousands of Australians with a disability living in limbo.
The Coalition government’s commitment to the NDIS is evident in our plan to fully fund it, announced as part of the 2017 Federal Budget.
An extra 0.5 per cent will be added to the Medicare Levy in order to pay for this vital program, because all Australians should do their bit to help other Australians in need.
The NDIS will provide those living with a significant and permanent disability the support they need to live a better life.
The scheme is designed to give people choice and control, so they can get the help they need, when and where they need it, to live a full life.
Each person on the NDIS will receive an individual plan based on the necessary support required to meet the immediate needs, and then it will be reviewed periodically.
This recognises that each person’s circumstances and needs are unique.
The NDIS started its gradual roll out across Australia in July last year.
It’s being introduced in stages over three years to ensure it is successful and sustainable.
I am hosting an upcoming NDIS information session in Port Macquarie for people with a disability, their families and carers on Tuesday, June 27.
Join me at Panthers Port Macquarie, 1 Bay Street, from 2pm until 4pm. Make sure you register today to attend: http://bit.ly/2sqDPsO
I encourage everyone who wants their questions answered about what these changes mean to them to come along. For more information about the NDIS visit ndis.gov.au.
