The Lake Cathie Skate and Recreation Park Project committee is pushing forward to give the community a park for children of all ages to enjoy.
Project committee member Clare Gray said a number of fundraising events had taken place over the last month to help support the future building of the park.
On June 18 members from the committee and the Lake Cathie Bonny Hills Lions Club manned the Bunnings barbecue in Port Macquarie to help raise money for the initiative. They sold out of everything by 3pm.
The Lake Cathie Skate and Recreation Park Project was initiated by the Lake Cathie Bonny Hills Lions Club as a result of a growing need for a recreational facility for the youth of Lake Cathie. The group is working with the assistance of the Lions Club and the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council.
The Lake Cathie Bonny Hills Lions Club has made the initiative their major project for 2017 to celebrate the Lions International Centenary Year.
The project committee has already secured a $10,000 grant from the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council and $9000 from local business sponsorship which has gone toward design concepts, community engagement and final plans.
Ms Gray said the group are currently communicating with a Melbourne-based company who are working on the design of the park to ensure it will suit the safety needs of the community.
Representatives from the company will visit Lake Cathie to decide on a site for the park and carry out an inspection.
Ms Gray said once the design plans are finalised the project will move into the next stage of building. She said it is expected to cost about $400,000 to $500,000 to carry out stage two of the project.
The group meets on the first and third Monday of each month at 6.30pm at the Lake Cathie Bowling Club and interested members of the public are invited to attend.
