HASTINGS Public School have rallied to raise more than $900 to buy a plane load of ukuleles.
Year six student Cameron Alford is using his talent for good, venturing to Johannesburg, South Africa, last week to play his ukulele and deliver instruments, school supplies and treats to children an orphanage.
The money raised from an out of uniform day at the school on May 24 totalled $971.80 and was used to purchase supplies and instruments, which Cameron has taken with him overseas.
This is the fifteenth year the South African Project has been run by the Qantas Cabin Crew Team, a charity made up of volunteers from the Qantas network.
A former crew member, Cameron’s mother, Raylene, jumped at the chance to get her son involved and they are now giving back to the less fortunate.
The Port News will catch up with Cameron on his return to find out all about his experience.
