ROAD work on Warlters Street are set to be completed by June 5.
The current state of the road is unacceptable according to residents who have contacted the Port News.
A Port Macquarie-Hastings Council spokesperson advised the Port News it was up to Quasar Constructions Pty Ltd, who was appointed to carry out the project, to complete the road works.
Quasar Business Development Manager James Gwynne said they are working with council to ensure that the final road works are completed in the next two weeks.
“Residents have been notified via letterbox drop informing them of the works last week,” he said.
“We are looking forward to delivering a new surface and works have begun already.”
A resident who lives in a set of units on Warlters Street, and did not wish to be named, said there have been problems from the beginning.
“I love Kmart and what it brings to the town, but if I had a choice I would have voted no (for it to be built),” they said.
“They haven’t finished the work on Wartlers Street. There are potholes and heaps of mess. It’s ridiculous and we want someone to tell us why this is the case.”
In a letter to the editor, resident P G Johnson said the Park Street and Warlters Street corner resembles “a bone yard”.
“Can someone please explain to me how the Kmart development, now trading since March 2017, has still not completed its infrastructure requirements as per DA?,” the letter said.
“Just witness the road on the northern ride of Warlters Street rivaling Maria River Road for NSW worst road and this is in the middle of town.
“The Park Street/Warlters Street corner resembles a bone yard for useless fill and discarded bits of construction.
“Council needs a rocket over this. Just allowing a warehouse development in this location is a tragedy.”
