This comes after the council was successful in receiving $365,050 through the Federal Government’s Road Safety Black Spot Program.
Work begins this week to a 300m length north of Milligan’s Road, and a 200m length south of Isabel Place to improve community safety and reduce the risk of crashes on Bago Road.
There have been a number of crashes in these two places over the past five years, and Black Spot projects target those road locations where crashes are happening.
A council spokesman said programmes of this sort are very effective, saving the community many times the cost of the relatively minor road improvements that are implemented.
Works include road widening, surface improvements, improved delineation and a length of safety barrier south of Isabel Place.
The council was successful in receiving over $1.1 million under the Black Spot Programme for 2016/2017 to undertake five safety improvement projects across the Local Government Area.
Funding has been received for Pappinbarra Road improvements, two sections of Bago Road, and the intersection of Bridge Street/Gore Street and Hill Street/Granite Street in Port Macquarie.
Works on Bago Road are scheduled for completion in June 2017 (weather permitting) and traffic controls will be in place.
