TAILS were wagging and paws racing for the RSPCA Million Paws Walk at Oxley Oval in Port Macquarie on May 21.
It was one of the biggest turn outs yet, organisers said, in a great show of community support by pet owners, vets and businesses.
The RSPCA will use the funds to assist the shelter and pound running their ongoing community based projects. Specifically, this year’s funds are for the Maddison Program, which provides specialist medical and dental care to animals seeking a new home.
RSPCA Port Macquarie branch secretary Suzanne Stringer said they were impressed to see so many people.
“It is one of the best walks we have had yet. It’s a beautiful day. The community loves what we do here and love that we spend the money in the local area,” she said.
“We run various programs, and the Maddison Program is a great one. We also assist people in de-sexing their animals.”
One of the big things the RSPCA Port Macquarie is doing is updating their cattery. With the community’s help, they will be able to undertake the upgrades.
“The people are just wonderful and thank you to them,” Suzanne said.
“You get like minded people, who love animals and want to support us. It is fantastic. The local vets, three of them are here today, are very supportive.
“The Koala Hospital are also supporting us, and have been ably assisted by TAFE students who are learning event management.
“I’d also like to acknowledge our major sponsor is Hills Science Diet who provide food for all the shelters in NSW. Steve from Australian Pet Cremations is also a great supporter of ours and supported our raffle this year.”
