Through the observatory, Mr York’s brainchild, pleasure and interest have been given to so many people, while Mrs York's headland garden lends enchantment not only to that portion of the town which the York’s and their family have so well developed but is also outstanding in an already beautiful Port Macquarie.
Two wonderful people deserve the richest rewards and most everyone in Port Macquarie will wish them tomorrow, and for the rest of their days on earth, happiness commensurate with their achievements.
Port Macquarie, through its municipal council, could best show its appreciation in being inspired by Mrs York’s garden and taking improvements for the Town Beach beyond the discussion stage.
A very wonderful showplace section of Port Macquarie – Mrs York’s garden, Lions’ Lookout and Rotary Park – will be completed when the mud holes go from the parking lot, red dirt no longer flows on to the beach sands, and the headland erosions are checked at the Town Beach.
It would make the York’s fiftieth wedding anniversary a great day for them if the resolve is strong enough to bring our Town Beach into line with the surroundings it now enjoys, and it will also be a great day for Port Macquarie.
Port Macquarie’s new ambulance
A new ambulance has been delivered to Port Macquarie Branch of the Manning District Ambulance Service.
The new vehicle is a Ford Galaxie which has a V8 engine and is fitted out to carry two stretcher cases in the back as well as two sitting cases beside the driver.
It is also fitted out with all the latest appliances such as resuscitators, Thomas splints, air splints, special carrying canvas, first-aid kit and a special maternity kit.
The vehicle is also equipped with power brakes, power steering and two-way radio.
The total cost, said Mr Wiseman is in excess of $6,000, which includes all the latest equipment for the relief of those either injured or becoming ill.
It is ducoed white, which is the colour now or which has recently been adopted as the colour for all ambulances throughout New South Wales.
It will be fitted out with a special collapsible stretcher as soon as one is available these are constructed in such a way that in most cases an ambulance officer can handle cases on his own and the Supt. also said that the vehicle is fitted with a special Rotary red flashing light which can be seen from a long way away.
The ambulance was delivered to Port Macquarie by the Supt.-Sec. of the Manning District Ambulance, Mr C. E. Wiseman. who handed it over to Ambulance Officer, Mr Merv. McCudden.
The old ambulance will be returned to Taree Headquarters for a general overhaul then used at the headquarters on shorter runs.
This vehicle has done well over 100,000 miles and should continue to give a few years good service yet said the superintendent.
