Member for Cowper Luke Hartsuyker was in town on Wednesday where he inspected one of the first NBN nodes to be completed.
The federal MP said the fixed-line NBN connections will bring reliable, affordable, high speed NBN broadband services.
“This is an exciting next step for broadband services in Port Macquarie,” Mr Hartsuyker said.
“Six months after the start of construction, the first 3,100 homes and businesses will be able to start connecting to the NBN network at the end of this month.
“Another 34,500 premises in the Port Macquarie-Hastings region will progressively make the switch to the NBN network over the next year.
“I know there are many people in Port Macquarie with poor internet connections who have been eagerly awaiting the switch on of the NBN network.”
This will create new opportunities for remote working, more effective access to online educational tools and access to more entertainment choices
- Cowper MP Luke Hartsuyker
The MP said the faster broadband service will provide plenty of benefits for local residents and business operators.
“This will create new opportunities for remote working, more effective access to online educational tools and access to more entertainment choices,” he said.
“Businesses will be able to improve their productivity through cloud based sharing with staff and customers as well as have increased opportunities to access new markets through e-commerce.”
Mr Hartsuyker said residents and business owners need to contact their preferred retailer to arrange the switch to the NBN network.
“It is very important to understand that switching to the NBN network does not happen automatically,” he added.
