Last year over 800 students from across the Mid North Coast discovered new and traditional pathways towards reaching their career and study goals.
This year’s event at the Port Macquarie Race Club was perhaps more popular, with many stalls and a wonderful partnership between Mid Coast Connect, Tafe and other organisations.
Year 9 to 12 students, parents and those seeking career and study guidance attended and engaged with North Coast TAFE, Universities, industry representatives and support services.
Executive Officer of Mid Coast Connect Jenny Fraser said students were impressed and eager.
“A lot of the feedback has been very positive. Teachers who haven’t been here before, and students who have, all say how big and how great it is,” she said.
“Students are finding out about courses they can do that they didn’t think they could. Many of the students are about to make subject choices, so it’s all about that awareness and discovery about what they can do.”
Of over 80 stalls, one of the unique ones was a start up business, called Spoiler Alert.
“That was there to promote to kids about starting up your own business as a way of getting employment,” Jenny said.
“A popular stall has been Charles Sturt University’s simulated ambulance. A lot of their paramedic students are here to answer questions for the kids.
“A new exhibitor we have this year is the Macleay Early Learning Collaborative, made up of preschools and early learning centres from Kempsey who have all come together to showcase career opportunities in that industry.”
Jenny said a lot of students are evaluated after the careers market with the majority saying they benefitted from the event.
