Letter: Station stretched

I recently visited my family in Sydney travelling from Wauchope to Strathfield by train.

Whilst waiting at the station in the morning I watched as the station hand sold tickets, booked in baggage, answered the phone, closed the shutter and locked the office when the train arrived.

He then pushed the baggage trolley all the way to the back of the train to load the baggage. He also had to help any disabled person who needed help boarding the train.

That was a lot of work for one person.  I don’t know if he had to clean the station and toilets as well or mow the grass.  As Wauchope is a major station on the North Coast line I believe it should have two people working to meet the train.
