That’s despite the team contributing to all four goals during their 3-1 defeat to Wallis Lake on Saturday.
Last year’s premiers emerged with a hard-fought three points, but they had to rely on one own-goal and two rebounds from defensive clearances to get the job done.
Wauchope coach Terry Burn, however, remained upbeat despite his luckless side’s performance.
“Mistakes are killing us at the moment,” he said.
“The first goal was from a back pass that went wide of the ‘keeper which was disappointing because we looked pretty strong at that point.
“A similar thing happened for the second goal where a back pass was a little bit short of the ‘keeper, one of our defenders came across and tried to clear it, but it rebounded off their attacker and into the back of the net.
“When your luck is out, your luck is out.”
Josh Everingham scored just before half-time to bring Wauchope back to 2-1 after unleashing a thunderbolt from outside the box.
His sweet strike rose barely a metre off the ground and gave the goalkeeper no chance, hitting the back of the net a metre in from the right post.
“The ball came out following a corner to the edge of the D and Josh just hit it sweetly,” Burn said.
The coach was satisfied with the improvement from the week before when his leaky defence shipped six goals.
“The beauty about those sorts of mistakes we made at the weekend is that the game provides the lesson because you don’t want to do it again,” he said.
“They’re easy fixes.
“The difference between MVR putting six on us was that we weren’t good enough, but against Wallis Lake the three goals we copped we had a hand in.”
