At the front marker, Spray crossed the Bird Rock start line 45 minutes ahead of the rest of the fleet but was overtaken by the time Tacking Point was reached.
Richard Symonds and Ron Dawson's Zig Zag took line honours from Enticer and JForce while Jim and Nancy Ringland's veteran long-keeler Spray triumphed on handicap to capture the Naval Association Trophy from Cool Change.
After an entertaining overnight stay in Laurieton, crews set out Sunday morning for the return journey to Port Macquarie.
This time it would be a close hauled voyage into the initially light north-north easterly breeze which filled in as the fleet tacked north.
Some crews chose to tack inshore, others headed out to sea.
It would be JForce that claimed the lead and retained it to take the coveted line honours trophy.
