The resident posted on the Nabo social media site and said the person who rang had told her they were from Randwick Police Station.
The person went on to tell the resident they had arrested a woman who had a credit card in the resident’s name at her address.
The resident called the police to check if the phone call was genuine and they told her it was a scam targeting the local area.
Mid North Coast Local Area Command crime manager Kim Fehon said if residents are contacted by someone claiming to be a police officer they should obtain their rank, name and station.
“Advise them that you will call the station to verify their identity before providing any further information,” she said.
Detective Inspector Fehon said residents can independently look up the phone number for the station the officer claimed to be attached to and ring to verify if the person is a police officer.
