The annual Koala Day celebrates these mesmerizing marsupials.
There will be
- koala zoo keeper talks throughout the day
- meet Kenny the Koala
- have a professional photograph taken patting a koala
- face painting (koalas of course)
- competitions
- a raffle
- a koala merchandise sale
There is a guess the number of koala poos in a jar as a fund raiser for the Koala Hospital.
Lots of fun for all ages, all day from 9am to 5pm.
Apart from a great day at the zoo, the Koala Day is also an opportunity to raise awareness of the plight of local koalas.
Billabong Zoo, which has a world renowned koala breeding centre, will also be launching it’s Living with Koalas initiative.
A programme informing locals and visitors to the fact that koalas are now listed on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as Vulnerable and the number of koalas in the wild in Australia could be as low as 30,000.
Billabong Zoo is leading a push to inform locals of practical conservation measures they can take to help stop the rapid decline of koalas in the Port Macquarie/ Hastings area. And how locals can help with the regeneration of the local koala populations.
